I am referring to mental disabilities mostly - ones that make harboring intimate/significant other type relationships difficult or even impossible.

There are better and more stable forms of joy than the pleasures you get from relationships. You can develop Samatha meditation to experience non-sensual joy that is much more stable or you can practice Vipassana meditation to reach cessation of suffering.
