As I note my negative feelings, I notice I'm disliking them and trying to coerce them into being something else.  My mind knows concentrated states during meditation can dissolve unpleasant states and it wants to use that.  So, I say "disliking, disliking" or "controlling, controlling".  But now I'm disliking that tendency and trying to stop it, so I'm still just disliking and controlling.  I can say "disliking" again, but that just repeats the same pattern.

Noting on its own doesn't seem to be enough to create clear thoughts.

Any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

Don't artificially try to get rid of any disliking or the mind's tendency to control certain situations. You only need to keep reminding/noting what is happening here and now, nothing more, nothing less! Try to keep things as simple as possible.

Yeah the question is what do you do when disliking and control emerge as an automatic result of noting.  If that's the case then when you note disliking and control, you create more of it.

You note it until it goes away. If it doesn't go away after some time then ignore it and return to the rising and falling.

Then you are doing it wrong. Technically It's impossible for Samma Sati(right awareness) to cause disliking.

Thanks both for your answers.

sankha: yeah the problem is that noting doesn't always cause right awareness, and I don't know what to do when it doesn't.

mhernandez: thanks, yeah, I think this is the only answer.
