I may seem a bit uneducated but i hear alot of people who have reached enlightenment talk about the pineal gland and how thats the reason for spiritual awakenings i was wondering since ive seen reports and research of pineal glands being calcified at the ages of even 5 is this a natural process for the gland or is this enviromental ? what scares me to the core is realizing if my pineal is calcified i would never be able to reach a spiritual awakening through meditation since it is shut.

I appreciate you telling me this I really want to reach that state of enlightenment and I worry just a bit. Say someone had a tumor on their pineal gland and it was removed could they still reach enlightenment? Because alot of people say one of ur chakras is on the third eye and say I don't have a "third eye" (pineal gland) would I still be able to be spiritual awoken? Thank u so much u helped me alot

I really wouldn't bother with the pineal gland or third eyes or chakra's. Buddha never mentioned those as being important at all.

All that matters is your state of mind. Sila (moral ethics) will lead to joy. Joy will lead to energy, tranquility, peace, a sense of balance, knowledge and wisdom. And wisdom can lead to (stages of) enlightenment.

So, don't worry about glands or chakra's or anything else remotely like that. The wisdom needed to uproot the defilements that keep us from getting enlightened, have nothing to do with a 'third eye' or gland.
Relax and be happy. You might want to look at incorporating the 5 basic ethic principals into your daily life: https://www.accesstoinsight.org/ptf/dhamma/sila/pancasila.html

And do Bhante Yuttadhammo's course if you want to.

What I could find about the pineal gland is that it produces melatonin which in turn regulates sleep.
Though the quality of sleep can have a huge impact on ones life, sleep itself is not that important. If I remember correctly Buddha only slept 4 hours after his enlightenment. I have been told that monks 'suspected to be' arahants also slept only 3 or 4 hours. They don't need more than that. So, the need for sleep will become less and less anyway.

Pineal gland, calcified or not, should not be a hindrance for you to practice the 8-fold path at all. And anyone practicing the path can become enlightened.
Hope this helps.
